About Katrina (Kat) Glaze's Shop

Dallas, Texas
Creative, artist, pet mom and professional fiddler!

From a young age, Katrina (Kat) Glaze was drawn to music. Her talents began in toddlerhood; humming, strumming on a plastic toy guitar and singing songs. When her parents realized that she had musical ability at the young age of two, they determined to put her in music lessons. A week after she turned four years old, Kat began taking classical violin lessons near her home in Long Beach, California. She had a good ear for picking up melodies, site-reading music, and a natural performing confidence that shown brightly from a young age. This also came with a tendency to not want to practice the music in front of her, but rather make up her own melodies. She began fiddling at the behest of her father who loved bluegrass music and at the age of 7 she won her first fiddle contest in Old Time Fiddling at the Orange County Fair.
?At the age of ten, Kat became a premier member of the Young Musicians Foundation in Los Angeles, California and had the privilege of working on the soundtrack for the motion picture, Music of the Heart, starring Meryl Streep and performing with Mark O'Conner at the Democratic National Convention in 2000. She was also honored to perform on the Jerry Lewis Telethon for two years as part of the organization.
After moving to Texas in 2002, Kat joined the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra while she continued to take classical lessons with Dr. Kurt Sprenger and fiddle lessons with Joey Mckenzie until she graduated high school in 2005. While attending Texas Tech University on scholarship, Kat continued her classical studies under Dr. Kirsten Yon and caught the Celtic fiddling bug under the direction of renowned musicologist, Dr. Christopher Smith. She joined the Texas Tech Celtic Ensemble for three years where she spent much of her time learning to dance, expanding on her improvisational skills, and growing her love for traditional music.
During this time she was a member of the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra under Tomasz Golka and after being selected to perform the Barber Violin Concerto with the Texas Tech University Symphony Orchestra, Kat was invited to attend the International Music Academy in Plzen, Czech Republic where she studied classically under Dr. Stephen Shipps (University of Michigan) improvisational fiddling under Dr. Brad Phillps (University of Michigan).
Upon returning to Dallas, Kat quickly established herself as a go-to violinist in the DFW theater community starting out as a pit musician and quickly proved herself as a capable soloist and improviser. Kat has played in pit orchestras/bands for award winning companies such as Lyric Stage, WaterTower Theatre, and the Tony Award winning, Dallas Theater Center. She has also performed on stage as an actor-musician in productions of A Christmas Carol (Dallas Theater Center), Ring of Fire (WaterTower Theatre) and the regional premiere of Once (Theatre Three) as the Irish fiddling Ex-Girlfriend to critical acclaim.
Katrina is the concertmaster of the Cathedral of Hope Orchestra in Dallas, Texas and resident violinist with the Turtle Creek Chorale with whom she has performed as soloist and concertmaster since 2014 under Artistic Director, Sean Baugh.
As an active member of the DFW Irish music scene, Kat has also played multiple rolls including Celtic rock fiddler in the band, Rathmore (2017-2019) while also being an active member of the TIMES Session Players. Currently, she is the fiddler for the Celtic fusion band, 5 Second Rule and maintains an active performing, recording and teaching schedule throughout DFW in both a classical and traditional capacity while writing and recording original tunes for her soon to be released tunebook!
